Last night I listened to a fascinating discussion between Index Space’s founders and the person who runs the first member space of their “node” program, called post-office, in Amsterdam. Index’s node program aims to create “a global network of independently operated nodes [to] empower people all over the world to open the third spaces needed within their communities.” To take a step back here, Index, founded in NY, considers itself very much a vessel of the community, a space for peer-led programming, and a somewhat revolutionary force in building truly collectivist spaces within the structure of capitalism that exists in the countries of their operation today. So much of what Index aims to do is to operate with transparency and within the public eye- from decision-making to managing their finances- and this discussion was exactly an example of that. Not only does the team discuss the future of the node program, but they discuss marketing it, their timelines, and even their own personal deliverables down to creating and populating a Notion with information. I found this practiced transparency so refreshing.
